The first and only Municipal Center for Adult Learning and Education in the Republic of Moldova was opened in April 2023 in Chișinău, at Matei Basarab Street, no. 14, Rîșcani sector, within the premises of the “Matei Basarab” Theoretical Lyceum.
In two years of activity, the Municipal Center for Adult Learning and Education (MCAL) has registered:
over 10,000 people enrolled in activities,
6,500 participants who directly benefited from the programs,
more than 5,600 academic hours delivered,
50+ courses and programs for personal, professional, and civic development,
55 trainers and specialists involved,
10 interest clubs with active participation,
30 partners supporting the center’s initiatives.
All these achievements are possible thanks to the involvement of learners who chose to attend the free programs delivered by professional trainers. The success of the Municipal Center for Adult Learning and Education is the result of the team’s work and the support provided by local and international partners.
During this period, the Center has focused its efforts on two major development directions:
Educational Program “MCAL – Learn, Grow, Succeed”, designed to meet the personal, professional, and civic development needs of adults in the municipality,
Interest Clubs – non-formal education and active socialization.
The free courses offered at the Municipal Center for Adult Learning and Education are available to adults aged 30–55 who are in professional transition, who no longer attend universities but need professional growth, retraining, foreign language learning, socialization, communication, leisure opportunities, and lifelong skills development.
The opening of the first innovative educational hub in the Rîșcani sector was made possible thanks to investments by the Chișinău City Hall, in partnership with the Representation of the German Association for Adult Education in the Republic of Moldova AO “DVV International Moldova.”
In this way, Chișinău fulfills the fourth goal of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, namely promoting the value of adult learning, education, and lifelong learning. In 2020, Chișinău Municipality was included in the UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities, alongside 54 other cities from 27 countries around the world.
