External funding

The Chișinău Municipality has implemented and continues to develop a series of essential programs and projects, thanks to over 4,5 billion lei in external assistance. The funds were obtained through partnerships with European financial institutions such as the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), the European Investment Bank (EIB), the European Commission, and EU member states like Romania, Germany, the Netherlands, and Slovakia.

Moreover, several important projects have been completed in Chișinău with financial support from the United States of America, Turkey, China, Japan, Switzerland, Norway, and other international partners.

The municipality has also benefited from a series of projects financially supported by global development organizations, such as the World Bank, the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), UNICEF, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), and the European Union's Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance (IPA).

Thanks to this international cooperation and the constant support of partners, Chișinău has become the first locality in the country to launch an ambitious energy efficiency program and develop a unique waste management strategy in Moldova.

The financial assistance obtained in recent years has allowed for the unlocking and revitalization of major infrastructure projects, including road rehabilitation, modernization of the water and sewer system, as well as the restoration of the Bâc riverbed.

These projects are particularly relevant for all localities in Moldova and have the potential to be replicated nationwide, bringing long-term benefits across the country.
