Description

A pedestrian crossing on Miron Costin Street, Riscani sector, has been additionally secured with built-in photovoltaic buttons.

The equipment is a first for Chisinau, being provided by an economic agent, on a test basis.

The photovoltaic road buttons have a traffic warning and guidance function, increasing the attention of drivers at night or in conditions of reduced visibility, when drivers may have difficulty seeing pedestrians who want to cross.

These are flashing or constant LED lighting devices that use solar energy to operate, capture it and convert it into electricity.

The bollards mark out crosswalks to give traffic participants increased visibility and safety. Embedded in asphalt concrete or pavement, they fit perfectly into the road surface. They are also easy to install and maintain, as they do not require power cables or electrical grid work.

If these devices prove their effectiveness in increasing the safety and alertness of drivers, the possibility of using photovoltaic buttons at other crosswalks in the city will be examined, especially those considered to pose a higher risk to citizens.
