In April 2022, the Chișinău City Hall launched the comprehensive rehabilitation project for three traffic arteries in the historical area of the capital of the Republic of Moldova: 31 August 1989 Street, Tighina Street, and Alexandru cel Bun Street. This project is part of Package II of the "Chișinău - Urban Roads" Program and benefits from funding from three important development partners: the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), the European Investment Bank (EIB), and the EBRD Green Energy Special Fund.
Through this project, the complete rehabilitation of the three streets is aimed at bringing them to modern standards and creating optimal conditions for traffic and accessibility. Each artery will undergo specific works tailored to its needs.
On 31 August 1989 Street, a "green corridor" reconstruction is planned, including the establishment of bicycle lanes, parking spaces, and the modernization of sidewalks, as well as the improvement of street lighting.
On Tighina Street, the rehabilitation of the asphalt surface, creation of new parking spaces, modernization of sidewalks, and street lighting upgrades are planned to ensure a safe and comfortable urban environment.
On Alexandru cel Bun Street, the rehabilitation of the roadway, improvement of sidewalks, and street lighting upgrades will contribute to traffic optimization in the area.
In total, the project envisions the rehabilitation of approximately 6.7 km of road, the arrangement of 78,000 m² of sidewalks, and the installation of 654 streetlight fixtures and 288 lighting poles.
The total value of the three streets' rehabilitation project amounts to 11.8 million euros.
Previously, rehabilitation works of the underground engineering networks for water supply and sewage were executed on these three streets, totaling 9.5 million euros.
