Description

In recent years, the Chișinău City Hall has consistently invested in the development of alternative transport infrastructure, creating over 20 kilometers of continuous lanes for cyclists. Additional separate lanes have been arranged in parks, squares, and on key segments of boulevards and streets, gradually transforming Chișinău into a city increasingly friendly to those who choose an eco-friendly and active mode of transportation.

Moreover, other major streets are being assessed for the development of alternative transport infrastructure: Albișoara, Alecu Russo, Nicolae Costin, Mihai Viteazul, and Calea Ieșilor. The lanes will be created either on the sidewalk or on the roadway, depending on the width and configuration of each street.

This stage comes in the context of new national regulations that classify bicycles and scooters as vehicles, requiring users to be properly equipped. At the same time, the new standards stipulate that bike lanes located on the roadway must have a minimum width of 1.20 meters from the curb. These changes will also be reflected in the ongoing update of the Municipal Strategy for the Development of Alternative Transport.
