The Municipal Center for Adult Learning and Education (CMIEA) has launched "Safe Spaces for Everyone", an initiative of the Chisinau City Hall aimed at providing new and much-needed services for parents, children, women, and girls, including refugees from Ukraine.
The Child-Friendly Space supports parents who participate in courses and training programmes. While mothers and fathers attend classes, their children stay in a safe and welcoming environment. Guided by a professional educator, children learn through play, explore, create, socialize, and develop their imagination and skills in a space designed to meet their needs.
The Safe Space for Women and Girls provides psychosocial support, basic counselling, support groups, and activities aimed at preventing gender-based violence. It also offers personal development activities, digital literacy training, career guidance, vocational education, and economic empowerment opportunities.
Participation in all courses is free of charge, and all activities are carried out in accordance with the principles of confidentiality, safety, respect, and non-discrimination.
The CMIEA Child-Friendly Space was developed with the support of the Chisinau City Hall, through the General Directorate of Education, Youth and Sport, in partnership with the Information and Documentation Centre for Children's Rights, within the regional programme "Together Against Gender Stereotypes and Gender-Based Violence", funded by the European Union and implemented by UN Women and UNFPA Moldova.
The Municipal Center for Adult Learning and Education, the only institution of its kind in the Republic of Moldova, was opened in April 2023 in Chisinau, at 14 Matei Basarab Street, Rîșcani District, within the premises of the "Matei Basarab" Theoretical Lyceum. Since then, it has become an important hub for adult education, professional retraining, and skills development.
To date, more than 10,000 beneficiaries have participated in over 60 educational programmes tailored to the real needs of adult learners.
