Hundreds of visually impaired people in Chisinau benefit annually from material aid allocated from municipal financial sources. In 2021 and 2022, in order to provide these people with the necessary accessories and devices, a total of 140 thousand lei have been allocated from the Chisinau municipal budget.
The aid program for the visually impaired includes the provision of specialized devices (thermometers and sound tonometer, walking sticks for the blind), guaranteed access to public passenger transport, as well as eye protection services. Every year, such services are offered to members of the "Association of the Blind of Moldova" (over 800 people) and other visually impaired people.
In 2020, 25 residents of Chisinau benefited from eye protection services. On 13 November, the International Day of the Blind and Visually Impaired, 840 members of the Association of the Blind, including 37 parents raising children with visual impairment, received material aid of up to 2 thousand lei per person.
In 2021, thanks to the joint effort of the residents of the Central sector and the Chisinau City Hall, the Stable at 14/4 Pietrarilor Street for the visually impaired was rehabilitated. At the same time, on Easter eve, 820 visually impaired people received 100 lei each for the preparation of the Easter meal.
The amounts foreseen in the municipal budget for the implementation of the
program for the support of visually impaired people amounted to 70 thousand lei
in 2021 and another 70 thousand in 2022.
