Rehabilitation of the "Valea Trandafirilor" Park

“Valea Trandafirilor” Park, located in the Botanica sector of the capital, covers an area of approximately 145 hectares, of which 9 hectares are water surfaces. The park was developed on the site of a hill once cultivated with roses in 1968 and was inaugurated a year later. According to history, local residents used to plant roses and later make jam from the petals. This is how the name “Valea Trandafirilor” (Valley of Roses) Park originated.

At the main entrance to the park, from Decebal Boulevard, the first musical fountain in the capital was built, along with the arrangement of the adjacent area. The street lighting system was modernized, urban furniture was installed, and a children’s playground was set up.

Access to the park from Melestiu Street was also arranged and asphalted.

In the area near Lake No. 1, a series of complex works were carried out, including: cleaning the spring; repairing the retaining walls; capturing and redirecting rainwater and spring water to Lake No. 1; arranging the nearby recreation area with the installation of benches; and constructing a footbridge.

The stairways leading into the park from Trandafirilor Street were also comprehensively rehabilitated together with the retaining walls.

At the same time, the square dedicated to the memory of the victims of the Chernobyl disaster was rehabilitated in 2021. The monument was renovated, granite plaques inscribed with the names of those who participated in ликвидация the nuclear catastrophe were installed, urban furniture was added, alleys were arranged, and video surveillance cameras were installed.

In recent years, extensive modernization works have been carried out in “Valea Trandafirilor” Park: recreation areas were created, including for people with special needs; spaces for practicing various sports were arranged; night lighting was expanded; and urban furniture was installed.

The Municipality inaugurated a sports complex in the park, covering an area of 1,360 square meters. The complex includes a skatepark, fields for mini-football, basketball, badminton, volleyball, and tennis. For chess and armwrestling enthusiasts, tables were also installed to practice their skills, accessible including to people using wheelchairs. Additionally, a unique recreation area in the form of a “pump track” sports facility was built — a special cycling track featuring alternating bumps and banked turns, without flat sections.

Today, all three lakes are landscaped, including the beach area, and visitors have the opportunity to enjoy boat rides on the lake. The green area stands out for its alleys lined with flowers and trees of various species.

During the summer, various cultural and artistic events, sports competitions, and other interactive activities are organized in the park.
