The Green Theater, formerly known as the Summer Theater, was built 60 years ago by architects A. Kolotovkin and T. Lomova. Conceived as an open-air performance space, unique in its location and capacity, with architecture inspired by classical amphitheaters, the theater has hosted over the decades a wide range of events — from pop concerts and classical music performances to major cultural festivals — becoming a landmark of Chisinau’s artistic life. Today, the Green Theater is one of the largest open-air amphitheaters in Europe.
After the 1990s, the complex fell into a long period of decay. In 2022, the Chisinau City Hall launched a major renovation of the Green Theater, which was reopened to the public in 2023. Since then, the Green Theater has once again become a vibrant symbol of urban culture, hosting numerous performances and concerts with renowned national and international artists, offering residents and visitors of the capital unforgettable events.
The renovation works included replacing the seats and asphalting the spectator area. Later, the entrance gates to the amphitheater were replaced, and a modular sanitary block was built. At the building located at the entrance to the theater, the windows, the main door, and two side doors were replaced; the stairs to the stage and those on the adjacent territory were repaired. Decorative lighting was also installed to highlight the facade’s architecture and the theater’s sign at night. Access routes to the amphitheater were likewise arranged.
The Green Theater in Valea Morilor Park has a capacity of 7,000 seats but can accommodate up to 10,000 spectators.
