Archaeological research in the
cellars of the house of Metropolitan Gavriil Banulescu-Bodoni at 11 Grigore
Vieru Street, where traces of the building of the Church Museum are believed to
exist, is in full swing and moving towards a new stage.
This project is implemented by the
Chisinau City Hall, the General Department of Architecture, Urban Planning and
Land Relations, the Râșcani District Pretura, in collaboration with the
"Monumentum" Association.
The team of archaeologists continues
to carefully explore these cellars, hoping to discover new clues and evidence
about the history and architecture of the building.
At the current stage of the
research, the following progress has been made:
- Restoration of the vault of one
room in the cellar network.
- Restoration of the foundation
walls on the east side of the building, up to the current limestone level of
the adjacent land.
- Restoration of the vault access to
the cellars from the terrace behind the building.
The traces of this remarkable historical
building, which is practically the oldest building in Chisinau, will be
investigated in detail.
To this end, it is planned to
initiate a project for the consolidation and musealisation of these valuable
archaeological traces.
The aim of this project is to
rehabilitate the memory of the site and to reconstruct the history of these
buildings, which are particularly important for the history of Chisinau.
