Valea Morilor Park, located in the Buiucani sector, covers an area of 114 hectares, and the project was designed by architect Robert Kurz.
Over the years, multiple attempts to rehabilitate the park were local and fragmented, managing only to emphasize the decay and wilderness into which it had fallen after decades of neglect. Since 2020, the Chișinău City Hall has gradually started landscaping and restoring the green area. All entrances to the park have been rehabilitated — from Grigore Alexandrescu Street, Alexei Mateevici Street, and the area near the Moldova State University, where the beautiful “Doina and Ion Aldea Teodorovici” square was arranged and a fountain was built.
The Rotunda, the Cascade Stairway, and the Green Theater give the place a distinctive charm, transporting visitors back to the park’s elegant past. The Cascade Stairway, for example, is one of the city’s symbols — a favorite spot for young couples — featuring 218 steps and numerous sculptures.
Among the trees found in the park are Canadian poplar, horse chestnut, acacia, maple, ash, and white willow. The lake is home to several species of fish, and ducks can be seen on the water throughout all four seasons. Around the lake, beaches have been arranged, the boat station has been restored, and facilities have been created for practicing water sports. New alleys have been built, while historical ones have been rehabilitated. Special tracks were also created for runners and cyclists.
Within the park is the Green Theater, the largest open-air amphitheater in Europe, with about 7,000 seats. It has been restored and now hosts various cultural events during the warm season.
The Children’s Town has also been redesigned, becoming a fairy-tale area loved by kids for its playgrounds and fitness/workout zone.
Thanks to the efforts and investments of the Chișinău City Hall, the park has once again become a major attraction for visitors of all ages — a clean, safe, and scenic space that hides many beautiful corners waiting to be explored.
